Emily deCamp Herbarium
The herbarium and garden at Island Beach State Park originated through the generous support of the deCamp family. It consists of over 400 native and introduced plants found on this barrier beach island. A few years ago members of Friends remounted each individual specimens in 8 by 10 inch glass Riker mounts. Key identifying information is printed on the front of the mount together with the dried plant specimen. The back of the mount has pertinent scientific and general interest information. This is one of the few herbaria, which are open to the public and allow the individual plants to be handled by park visitors. The herbarium is housed at the Interpretive Center at Island Beach State Park and specimens may be viewed on line at http://savebarnegatbay.org/
Janet’s Garden
Janet’s Garden was established also established through the generous support of the deCamp family. The garden was created to allow the visiting public and botany students to see and examine living native plants of the barrier beach islands of New Jersey. This garden was constructed adjacent to the Interpretive Center.
